Wednesday Adams is an orange-and-white rescue cat who works and lives at Dirty River Bicycle Works, a retail and repair shop in Akron’s Northside District.Since leaving a farm owned by friends of the store’s owner, Ryan Adams, this furry, four-legged feline has gained favor from employees and customers. She got her name from a bicycle manufactured by Surly — it’s described as the ideal all-around, fat bike. That’s to say Wednesday is a tad pudgy. Also, the bike repair team thought it would be purr-fect to name her after Wednesday Adams, the dark and emotionally reserved character from “The Addams Family.”On most days, she’s unbothered by two-wheeled aluminum, titanium and carbon fiber machines that roll in and out of the store, or chattering voices, bouncing rubber tires, bicycle bells, and definitely not humans offering admiration — pets, funny sounds and, when she’s in the mood, hugs. The bike shop, located near the nearby Towpath Trail, is her sanctuary. Her favorite hang out is atop two towers beside the checkout counter, near bike buddies. She takes cat naps on an Italian-inspired chaise lounge near the front door. Still, her amusement has limits. When Wednesday tires of adults and kids, she hides out until the showroom floor is empty. She also enjoys long sessions at multiple water bowls, followed by private trips to litter boxes spread across the store. Wednesday’s portrait is displayed on blue t-shirts and water bottles that read: “Ride Bikes, Pet Cats, and the Yeti Squad” — which advertise relaxing, adult group rides on most Sundays at 10 a.m.Mice beware: In exchange for services rendered via the bike shop mascot and pest control expert, Wednesday lives at the shop 24/7. She does not receive a paycheck, but she welcomes tips in the form of affection and attention. Again, when she’s in the mood. Surprisingly, Wednesday has yet to take a bike ride.
