Flint, MI — Officials are still working to restore city services after a cyber attack this month.Flint City Administrator Clyde Edwards issued a statement saying there has been some progress restoring internal processes.“The City of Flint has made progress toward restoring our internal processes and we are hopeful that billing functionality for the public will be restored sometime next week,” said Edwards in an Aug. 22, 2024 email statement.Flint officials discovered City Hall had been compromised sometime in the early hours of August 14 saying there was “an internal network and internet outage caused by a criminal ransomware attack.” At that time FBI and Michigan’s Attorney General’s Office was involved in the investigation.In addition to billing systems being impacted, Flint City Council committee meetings were canceled on August 21 and phone systems were not operational. Emergency services, including Genesee County 9-1-1, Flint Police and Fire Departments were not impacted.There is still no clear date for full restoration but city officials did urge residents to protect their information as staff works to find out if resident information was leaked.Service ImpactsA list of service impacts will be continuously updated on the City website as progress is made with the network disruption.Public SafetyEmergency services, including 911, dispatch, law enforcement, and fire operations, are fully operational and unaffected. The Flint Police Department’s online reporting system Coplogic is available.PaymentsThe City of Flint is able to receive payments by cash and check only at this time.The City of Flint’s BS&A system is currently offline and the City is unable to receive online or credit card payments for water, sewer, and tax payments.No late fees or penalties will be assessed, and no water shutoffs will happen during this time period.Email, Phone, and VoicemailMost City employees are able to access email.The City phone system is still experiencing gaps in service.
