Warren Bickel, whose addiction research and products helped put Roanoke, Virginia’s Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at VTC on the map, died on Sept. 28, some four months after a pancreatic cancer diagnosis.

Akron Public Schools holds open house ahead of levy for aging North High School

Members of the Northern Cheyenne nation, drumming and dressed in regalia, led the ninth annual Portage Path Walk Sunday in Akron. The one-kilometer trek started across the street from the Portage Path Community Learning Center and ended at the John Brown House on Diagonal Road.

Child abuse expert to join University Hospitals staff

After a long search, University Hospitals has hired a pediatrician who specializes in child abuse and neglect. The position is supposed to be part of the Child Protection Team that was launched after high-profile child deaths and amid reports that more children were dying in Cuyahoga County than in other counties in Ohio.
