ITHACA, N.Y. — Cornell University is seeking to build a field hockey field on Game Farm Road, which would feature synthetic turf. Architect Kim Michaels stated that natural grass is not feasible, citing NCAA regulations that require artificial turf for Division 1 programs.

The proposal comes as the university moves forward with plans for the Meinig Fieldhouse, which also includes synthetic turf. The project recently received approval from planning boards in the City and Town of Ithaca.

However, environmental group Zero Waste Ithaca has raised concerns about the use of artificial turf. The organization has filed a lawsuit against the Meinig Fieldhouse project, emphasizing potential environmental risks associated with the material.
