(APN) — Governor Kathy Hochul has announced $62 million in grants through the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) to support 1,497 nonprofit organizations and 509 individual artists across the state. This funding round brings Fiscal Year 2025’s total arts funding to $84 million, including $21 million in multi-year grants already awarded.

The grants aim to expand access to arts funding, with 70% awarded to organizations with budgets under $1 million. They fall into four categories: Support for Organizations, Support for Artists, Targeted Opportunities, and Regrants and Services.

Governor Hochul emphasized that the investment will bolster local economies, boost tourism, and enhance New York’s position as a global leader in arts and culture. Applications for an additional $80 million in NYSCA Capital Projects Fund grants, aimed at cultural facility improvements and expansion, remain open until January 14, 2025.

NYSCA Executive Director Erika Mallin and state lawmakers applauded the grants, highlighting the economic and social value of the arts sector in fostering creativity, strengthening communities, and supporting recovery efforts.

Established in 1960, NYSCA continues to support arts and culture statewide, aiming to allocate $162 million in Fiscal Year 2025 to ensure the growth and vitality of New York’s creative economy.
