ITHACA, N.Y. — A fire near South Hill will displace at least one resident after a home on Kings Way suffered extensive damage during a blaze early Friday morning. The Ithaca Fire Department announced over the weekend that firefighters received a report from a passerby of a house fire around 2:15 a.m. Friday morning. Upon arrival, firefighters found a house showing “heavy fire” from its second floor. According to Ithaca Fire Department Public Information Officer Jim Wheal, the entire on-duty staff of the department responded to the fire, focusing on evacuating any victims inside. None were found, Wheal said, and the occupants of the home were later located outside of the home. One firefighter was injured during the effort and was taken to a hospital by Bangs Ambulance for treatment. Wheal said the home suffered “serious fire, smoke and water damage and cannot be occupied until repairs are made.” The response lasted until around 6 a.m. before crews cleared the scene. The cause of the fire was not released, though Wheal said the investigation into the circumstances is ongoing.
