ITHACA, N.Y. — The Ithaca Fire Department responded to an “uncontrolled brush fire that was extending up a hillside” on Wednesday morning, according to a press release early Thursday morning.

Lt. Robert Shepherd wrote in a release that the fire department responded to the area of 272 Enfield Falls Road where the brush fire was reported. When crews arrived, Shepherd said the fire was observed creeping up the hillside and approaching a structure nearby.

After about one hour, crews were able to bring the fire under control. Additional personnel reported from Enfield and Newfield Fire Departments, off-duty Ithaca firefighters and a crew from Bangs Ambulance. No injuries were reported.

Shepherd said damage from the fire was limited to the burning of about 0.6 acres of understory in the forest. Shepherd also wrote the cause of the fire is believed to be unattended open burning.
