ALBANY — New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced today that the state’s 14th annual Minority- and Women-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE) Forum will be held on Nov. 12 at the Albany Capital Center, commemorating 36 years of the state’s MWBE program.

The forum, themed “Solidifying our Future: A Commitment to Expanding Opportunities for MWBEs,” aims to provide minority and women business owners with networking opportunities, resources, and insights into securing state contracts.

“Our MWBE certification program has been a beacon of opportunity for 36 years, empowering diverse businesses, aspiring entrepreneurs and strengthening our economy,” Governor Hochul said. “The Forum this year reinforces our commitment to expanding opportunities for MWBEs and building a more inclusive and prosperous New York one business at a time.”

The one-day event will feature panel discussions on mega projects, discretionary opportunities, and agency capital plans. Workshops will address crucial business development areas including access to capital, contract competition strategies, and certification processes. The forum will also include sessions focused on retail and technology opportunities, as well as training programs like the Business Growth Accelerator.

Chief Diversity Officer Julissa Gutierrez described the forum as “a cornerstone event” in the state’s efforts to foster business diversity. “It’s a powerful platform that brings together MWBEs, government agencies and private sector partners to create meaningful connections and drive economic growth,” Gutierrez said.

Hope Knight, President, CEO and Commissioner of Empire State Development, emphasized the forum’s role in shaping an inclusive economic future. “As we celebrate 36 years of the MWBE program, we’re not just looking back at our achievements — we’re charting a course for an even more inclusive future,” Knight said.

The event will feature the MWBE Champions Awards Luncheon, recognizing individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to MWBE communities across New York State. The forum will welcome both new and established businesses, with an exhibit hall facilitating connections between certified MWBEs, state agencies, prime contractors, and private companies.

New York’s MWBE program, established in 1988, has served as a national model for expanding economic opportunity and supporting diverse business growth. The program provides entrepreneurs with resources, skills training, and networking opportunities essential for success in securing state contracts.
