ITHACA, N.Y. — Korsah Akumfi was officially appointed to his new role as Tompkins County Administrator after a unanimous vote by the County Legislature at its meeting Tuesday evening.
In Tompkins County, the county administrator is akin to the CEO of a company. They are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the county and are responsible for formulating the county’s yearly budget for consideration by the legislature.
Prior to accepting the role, Akumfi served as the Schoharie County Administrator since October 2022. He was slated to start his second term as Schoharie County Administrator in November 2024.
Akumfi’s selection was announced earlier this month. It is the result of a months-long search to replace outgoing County Administrator Lisa Holmes, who announced she would retire at the end of 2024.
Akumfi’s tenure was initially slated to begin as Tompkins County Administrator in December, but he will now assume the post in early January 2025 “to allow for him to complete his time in Schoharie County.” He will enter after the 2025 Tompkins County budget process is completed in the coming weeks.
Akumfi thanked the legislators after they made his appointment official.
“I’ve been looking at Tompkins County for a long time and I’m happy to be here finally,” Akumfi said. “I’m looking forward to working with all of you here, learning, and being part of the process.”
