ITHACA, NY — Ithaca police are investigating a stabbing that occurred early Tuesday morning at the Asteri Building on East Green Street. Officers responded to a report of the incident at approximately 5:52 a.m., finding a male victim with a stab wound in the chest.

Upon arrival, officers provided first aid to the victim, who was bleeding uncontrollably, reports Cortaca Today. After questioning him, they learned the stabbing took place on the building’s eighth floor. The victim, whose name has not been released, has since stabilized and received medical treatment at a local trauma center.

The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival, and authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Ithaca Police Department. They can reach police dispatch at 607-272-3245, police administration at 607-272-9973, or the police tipline at 607-330-0000.

This incident adds to ongoing concerns about the Asteri Building, which opened in August.
