JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. — The site of the former Friendly’s restaurant at 561 Harry L. Drive is becoming a car wash as Splash Car Wash of Connecticut expands its operations with a new facility.

The Friendly’s, a long-standing fixture in the Binghamton area, closed its doors in September after nearly four decades, and the building was demolished in November to make way for the new car wash.

Construction crews have been actively working on the 4,500-square-foot Splash Car Wash for several weeks. The site, located east of the Oakdale Commons, has received a new concrete driveway and expansions to accommodate the car wash operations.

Johnson City Planning Board Member Stephanie Yezzi noted that the location is ideal for a car wash, providing a convenient stop for motorists coming off the 201 Bridge and visitors to the Oakdale Commons.

While Splash Car Wash already operates over 80 facilities across New York and three other states, including two in Broome County, there is currently no timeline for the completion of the new facility.
