BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — A drag performer was attacked early Friday morning outside the Binghamton Police Station, according to reports.

The incident occurred around 2 a.m. on August 2, following a drag show at Legacy Lounge on Hawley Street. The performer was allegedly assaulted by a group of at least 10 individuals while walking to their car. Eyewitnesses, including a patron who contacted News 34, intervened to stop the attack.

The victim sustained facial injuries and was bleeding, as reported by the witness. Binghamton Police arrested two suspects at the scene: Isis McKinstry, 18, and Armony Murphy, 18, both from Endicott. They have been charged with Assault in the Third Degree and Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree, both Class A misdemeanors.

Police have indicated that the attack does not appear to be a hate crime but rather a result of a personal dispute, according to the victim. However, the eyewitness reported hearing derogatory terms such as “fa**ot” and “man in a dress” during the incident.
