ITHACA, N.Y. — One person was killed in a car crash that occurred Wednesday on Danby Road in Danby, according to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office.

As of Friday morning, police said no charges are currently forthcoming, though the investigation is ongoing.

Emergency personnel responded to a crash in the 1200 block of Danby Road around 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Two cars had collided near the intersection of Danby Road and Nelson Road, and the two drivers were taken to hospitals for treatment of their injuries.

One of the two drivers ultimately succumbed to their injuries on Thursday, the day after the crash.

After investigation, police determined that a Toyota sedan and a Hyundai sedan were traveling in opposite directions on Danby Road. The driver of the Hyundai sedan attempted to make a left-hand turn on to Nelson Road but the two cars collided head-on.

The driver of the Hyundai, who passed away from his injuries sustained in the crash, did not yield the right of way, police said. The Toyota driver “will not be issued any citations,” according to Undersheriff Jennifer Olin.

Bangs Ambulance and Danby Fire/Rescue also responded to the crash.
