DONATE AG Bird leads state coalition to urge Congress to pass the SAVE ActIowa Attorney General Brenna Bird led a coalition of 22 state attorneys general who sent a letter to House and Senate leadership calling on them to pass the Safeguarding American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act.The SAVE Act would require that voters show proof of citizenship when voting and force states to examine their voter rolls to find any noncitizens who might be voting.“Americans get to decide the leaders who represent them, not illegal aliens,” Bird said in a press release. “It is common sense. Biden’s historic border crisis has not only jeopardized the safety of our communities, but it now threatens the integrity of our elections.”Bird and supporters argue the bill is necessary to prevent noncitizens from voting and swaying American elections. Opponents of the bill argue there have been few instances of noncitizens voting and that the bill would only make it harder for eligible citizens to vote. The House of Representatives passed the SAVE Act on July 10 with every Republican, including the entire Iowa House delegation, and five Democrats voting in favor of the bill.It is already illegal for noncitizens to vote under federal law. However, many Republicans say it still happens and is influencing election results.Reporting from the Associated Press, based on audits of voter rolls in states such as Georgia and Arizona, found less than 50 instances of noncitizens between 2016 and 2022.in order to vote, American citizens who do not have access to proof of citizenship will need to purchase that proof if the SAVE Act is passed.“Americans deserve to have confidence in the security of our elections,” the letter reads. “The SAVE Act provides needed security by ensuring that only Americans participate in America’s elections.”Iowa lawmakers call for prayers for Biden’s safety following COVID-19 diagnosisAs was the case after the attempt on Trump’s life, some of Iowa’s congressional delegation announced they would be praying for Biden’s health after he was diagnosed with COVID-19. in a post on Twitter, now known as X, Miller-Meeks asked for prayers for a quick recovery for Biden.I ask all Americans to pray for the rapid and uneventful recovery of President Biden after his COVID diagnosis.— Rep.
